Studying the Human Bodys Anatomy For Human Anatomy Students amp Educators
HUMAN ANATOMY:
In reality there are some things that you will be studying in the human anatomy that are sort of like a warm up to the topic. These are important because they are your general starting points. An example of this is anatomy sections, or terms of position and direction. They all have to do with your human anatomy studies, but there are sort of a side line of the main topic.

Yet you must understand them in order to enter into your studies. A good example of this is the body cells. You cant categorize these into one part or organ because the entire body is made up of cells. So before you can delve into the deeper workings of the body, you must study the basics first.
You obviously entered the study of human anatomy because it intrigues you to the point where you want to know all about it. This is most probably because you intend to utilize it in some form of profession, such as a Doctor, Nurse or even a Para medic. This means that you are interested and enjoy the field. That is the first step into being successful in your studies. It is much easier to learn something if you have a keen interest in it, because you will retain more of the facts that you are learning. A word of warning, know when to take breaks from your studies. If you become frustrated too often, and for long periods of time, you could lose your interest because of this. Then your studies will suffer.
As we mentioned ,you need to know all about a cell. Now heres where it gets interesting because there are different shapes of cells, and each shape has a name. You have probably heard the term , dna. Well this is it. Everybody has unique cells, and its that uniqueness in the cell that makes up your dna.
You are really going to get excited when you see a cell under a microscope and know by the shape of it what part of the body it came from. To know this you have to learn how to identify them. As you read about them in your text book ,draw a picture of them in a column. In another column next to them write the name of what the cell is. Now leave a large 3rd column. Here you can write notes about that particular cell each time you come across information relating to them. Once again you have a good block of information. Studying in blocks is a perfect way to learn.
When you get to the point of studying an individual cell and all its components ,draw a large cell on a piece of paper , with the front of the cell cut off so you can see the inside of the cell. Now as you learn about each part of what that cell is made up of, draw it on the cell and color it. Now put the details about that part in a block of text, under the cell. Border the block of text in the same color you used on the part in the cell. You will now be able to read your notes, see the color, and quickly reference where it is in the cell. Using the colors is helping you to visualize and link information.

Examining the lives and legacies of these women, Schultz considers who they were, how they became involved in wartime hospital work, how they adjusted to it, and how they challenged it. She demonstrates that class, race, and gender roles linked female workers with soldiers, both black and white, but became sites of conflict between the women and doctors and even among themselves.
Schultz also explores the womens postwar lives--their professional and domestic choices, their pursuit of pensions, and their memorials to the war in published narratives. Surprisingly few parlayed their war experience into postwar medical work, and their extremely varied postwar experiences, Schultz argues, defy any simple narrative of pre-professionalism, triumphalism, or conciliation.

This book was recommended to me by a cardiologist to get better at ECG interpretation. Theres lots of material, but as one commenter noted, dont use this book to learn ECGs---you should already know them---use this book to master them. There are 89 detailed practice ECGs along with pop quizzes and other review aids. This is the only book that Im aware of that discusses using ECGs to interpret atrial septal defects, myxedema, sinoatrial blocks.By deuist

Positioning gels are multi-purpose medical tools design to properly position patients during operating room procedures. Patient positioning is an import aspect of any medical procedure; even slight improper positioning during surgery can cause serious unwanted complications for the patient. In these exquisitely written essays Thomas reflects on how her marriage had to be reinvented after the night her husband, Richard, took their dog, Harry, out for a walk, and Harry came home alone. Richard had been hit by a car and was lying bleeding in the street. The traumatic head injury he suffered didnt kill him, as attending police had predicted it would, but it rendered him susceptible to large-scale memory loss, hallucinations, and such wild rages that Thomas was forced to commit him to an institution. Lesser events have destroyed relationships, so it would not be surprising to learn that Thomas abandoned Richard. She didnt. Instead, she sold their New York apartment, moved upstate to be near him, and acquired two more dogs to keep her company. Whats more, she cant imagine life without her husband, saying, "It would be like falling through space with a parachute but no planet to land on." Thomas has elevated what could be, at best, an overemotional sermon or, at worst, a grim romp in self-pity to a high plain of true inspiration. Donna Chavez

About the Author
Richard Pankhurst, a prolific writer on Ethiopian history and culture, taught for many years at Addis Ababa where he founded the Universitys Institute of Ethiopian Studies. He was awarded the International Prize for Ethiopian Studies in 1974. He served for almost a decade as librarian of the Royal Asiatic Society in London, but is currently back at the Institute of Ethiopian Studies in Addis Ababa.

I originally purchased the 2nd edition of this when I started residency. As soon as I saw the 3rd edition was out, I immediately preordered it.
The biggest obstacle of the 2nd edition, lack of mobile access, has been resolved with the expert consult online access. Now, you can login to the website anywhere you are (Urgent Care Clinic, ER, Dennys at 3am), and look up how to treat a dislocated contact lens or bleeding after dental surgery.
This book has many pearls for topics that you will not find in any other major emergency textbook. It is well worth the investment for any primary care or emergency medicine library, ESPECIALLY since you can now access it online and not have to lug it three miles uphill in your backpack on your fixie (or is that just me).
I have not done a thorough search, but so far it seems that some of the out-of-date references and advice have been updated with new literature support and I have not found one glaring error yet. Lastly, the cover picture is priceless, and has not changed throughout the editions. I have had the patient who had a bug fly in their ear, came into the ED, and the only treatment that was necessary was to tell them to take their hand off their ear so the bug could fly out.

San Franciscos Laguna Honda Hospital is the last almshouse in the country, a descendant of the Hôtel-Dieu (Gods hotel) that cared for the sick in the Middle Ages. "Gods Hotel" is the true story of an internal medicine physician and her experiences at Laguna Honda Hospital, a place where doctors arent constrained by the economic stressors of practicing modern medicine. Patients often stayed for months at a time, as their medical problems were addressed by looking at all facets of their being, not just lab results or x-rays. Her book describes in wonderful detail the concept of "slow medicine," where doctors and nurses write their chart notes longhand and have the time to review all aspects of their patients health, without worrying about the three patients in exam rooms still waiting to see them. Whereas current medical administrators may consider this idea archaic and unrealistic, the stories of the many patients who benefitted from this methodical, holistic approach to treating patients are truly moving and affecting.
Unfortunately, Laguna Honda eventually succumbs to the pressures of modern medicine, as "Heath Care Efficiency Experts" are hired to come in and make the place more profitable and efficient. While they help make the hospital shinier and more modern, the care of the patients suffers, and this old-fashioned, loving approach to practicing medicine finally disappears altogether. Dr. Sweet writes about these changes in a sobering tone, yet its a testament to her writing skills that the reader is always infused with hope.
This past year has been great for fans of this medical memoirs, so if you like this book Id recommend two others that would serve as great companions.
In Stitches is an immensely entertaining read about one doctors journey through medical school.
It almost always annoys me when someone who isnt a professional writer produces a great book, but Victoria Sweet has written the best non-fiction book Ive read this year and all I wanted to do when I finished reading it was to meet her and congratulate her and ask her a lot of questions.
So I did.
Something happened at the start of that conversation that made me realize why her book dazzled me --- the qualities that make her a great doctor are the same qualities that make her book so powerful, original and relevant.
She heard me. She paid attention. She made me her patient.
Before I asked my first question, I mentioned a health issue. When she returned to San Francisco, she wrote me: "Now that youve let me know you havent been feeling well, you need to make sure to let me know that/when you are feeling better and the meds are kicking in. Otherwise, I worry."
You want a doctor who has infinite time for you? Who cares --- as a person --- how you fare? Who uses not just the tools of current medicine but learns Latin so she can scour texts a thousand years old to learn the wisdom of pre-modern medicine?

About a month ago, in an effort at preventitive medicine to lower my cholestorol and resulting high blood sugars, my GP sent me to a cardiovascular surgeon. Well as a person that rarely has gone to doctors I wasnt exactly excited what this guy told me, but, when I asked him to explain what kind of a diet or program I should follow he just said buy the book Sugar Busters and follow what it says .....
I have been on all kinds of diets before (who hasnt) and every time some Doctor tried to explain to concepts to me they generally lasted only short periods since the darn diets just didnt make any sense, and it just felt like pieces were missing in the overall puzzle of chemistry in they body related to proteins, carbohydrates, sugars, chloesterol, good bad etc etc.....
What a great surprise this book was to me. Not only does it tie all the pieces together and explain its diet as the Sugarbusters way of eating is roughly 40 percent carbohydrates 30 percent protein and 30 percent fat, it is a balanced diet that makes overall sense.....
The authors go to great detail to explain the functions of the pancreas, the purposes of insulin, glucanol and exactly what happens when you eat a high protein meal vs a high cargohydrate meal....
For example, the book explains that "The glycemic index (GI) is a measure of how much of a specific amount of ingested carbohydrate (usually 50 grams) will cause a persons blood sugar to rise and remain elevated over time relative to the effect on blood sugar of the same amount of pure glucose (which is assigned a GI of 100)... NOW HEREs THE SHOCKER FOR ME the book continues that to "compare the potatoes blood stimulating effect realtive to table sugar is that it would take 118 grams of sugar to have the same impact as one potato.

my school did not require this workbook for the Dental Assisting Program, but I had heard from another student who actually purchased this by mistake what a great tool it is. modern dental assisting is a text book that I am using in multiple classes, so this workbook has been a great asset for all of those exams. the price has gone up since I purchased it, so shop around, but its worth every penny if you want to do well!

About the Author
Carol M. Davis, DPT, EdD, MS, FAPTA, is Professor Emerita of the Department of Physical Therapy in the Miller School of Medicine at the University of Miami and immediate past Vice Chair for Curriculum. Dr. Davis is an internationally known speaker and consultant in teaching and developing curriculum in professional behaviors, attitudes, and values and in complementary therapies in rehabilitation for physicians and all health professionals. In addition to being the author of Patient Practitioner Interaction: An Experiential Manual for Developing the Art of Health Care, Fifth Edition, she is the editor of Complementary Therapies in Rehabilitation: Evidence for Efficacy in Therapy, Prevention, and Wellness, Third Edition, also published by SLACK Incorporated, and co-editor of Therapeutic Interaction in Nursing.
Dr. Davis continues to teach doctor of physical therapy (DPT) students at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She served 6 years as a commissioner on the Commission on Accreditation for Physical Therapy Education and was a team leader and site visitor.
